Josephine is an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist, clinical and management supervisor, manager, trainer and educator. She has qualifications and training in counselling, clinical and management supervision, sociology and anthropology, and nursing.

Josephine has worked in Western Australia and the United Kingdom in palliative care/hospice, the community setting, private practice and the university sector; she has extensive clinical experience working with both adults and children working with systems; trauma, loss, grief and bereavement; suicide postvention; separation; chronic illness; anxiety and depression; communication and relationship difficulties; clinical and management supervision.

She has combined working in the university sector and private practice for the past 11 years. For the past 6 years Josephine was the Program Director of three postgraduate programs, including a Master of Counselling program, training counselling clinicians.

She has been very active in the profession and has held a number of external portfolios and memberships including Past Chair and current member of the Expert Reference Group for the Suicide Postvention Project (ARBOR) for the Ministerial Council for Suicide Prevention and the Dept of Health and Ageing in WA; Current Member (Expert Register) of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) - Australian independent national regulator of the higher education sector; Past Chair of the Ethics Subcommittee of the Psychotherapists and Counsellors Association of WA.

Gemma has an extensive range of experience across the clinical field, including working in an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) setting, coordinating a women's substance user group program, providing assessment and treatment for substance users and their families, working as part of a multi-disciplinary chronic pain treatment program, and running her own private practice. Gemma also lectures and is a unit coordinator within a university-based Master of Counselling program, and is a consultant and trainer in group facilitation and counselling for Alcohol and/or Other Drug Workers.

Gemma has experience in providing clinical supervision and mentoring for undergraduate and postgraduate counselling, psychology and social work students, as well as for provisional psychologists seeking general registration, and registered psychologists for CPD requirements.
